MACOMB, Ill. — Trey Deveaux played a pivotal role in leading Western Illinois to a thrilling 86-81 victory over Lindenwood in overtime on Tuesday evening. Deveaux’s exemplary performance, marked by scoring 23 points and pulling down seven rebounds, was instrumental for the Leathernecks, who now have a conference record of 5-14 in the Ohio Valley Conference, with an overall standing of 11-19.
Sean Smith also made a significant impact for Western Illinois, contributing 20 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another standout player, Julius Rollins, added 19 points to the scoreboard, shooting 8 for 15 from the field, including 1 of 4 from beyond the arc, and managed to sink 2 of 6 free throws.
On the opposing side, Lindenwood’s Anias Futrell emerged as a key player, matching Deveaux’s scoring effort with 23 points. Futrell also chipped in with eight rebounds and two blocks, showcasing a strong all-around game. Reggie Bass contributed significantly as well, providing Lindenwood with 18 points and facilitating the offense with seven assists. Additionally, Jadis Jones added 13 points, aiding their cause although the effort fell short.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to face off against Tennessee Tech in their upcoming games. Western Illinois will take on this challenge on the road on Thursday, followed by Lindenwood’s clash with the same opponent on Saturday, also away from home.
