OXFORD, Ohio — Brant Byers and Eian Elmer each contributed 22 points, propelling Miami (Ohio) to a commanding 87-58 win over Northern Illinois on Tuesday night.
Byers not only showcased his scoring ability but also grabbed five rebounds for the RedHawks, who improved to 21-7 overall and 12-3 in the Mid-American Conference. Reece Potter also made his presence felt with 11 points.
Facing a challenging season, the Huskies, now 5-23 and 1-14 in conference play, were led by Nasir Muhammad, who tallied 17 points. James Dent Jr. complemented with 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Quentin Jones added 10 points. With this defeat, Northern Illinois extended its losing streak to nine games.
The RedHawks gained an early advantage, with Byers contributing 12 points in the first half, establishing a 46-28 lead by halftime. Miami continued its momentum after the break, extending the lead to 56-30 thanks to a decisive 10-0 run. Elmer stood out with a team-best 13 points in the second half.
Looking ahead, both teams take the court again on Saturday. Miami will travel to clash with Ohio, while Northern Illinois is set to face Western Michigan at home.
