During a dominant 97-60 victory over Miami, Duke’s guard Tyrese Proctor suffered an apparent injury to his left knee, raising concerns about his future availability. This incident occurred late in the first half of the game, and as of now, the extent of his injury remains uncertain.
Tyrese Proctor is scheduled to undergo X-rays and an MRI upon the team’s return to North Carolina, Coach Jon Scheyer informed the press following the impressive win. Notably, Proctor’s milestone achievement of surpassing the 1,000-point mark in his career with Duke was overshadowed by this unfortunate event.
Reflecting on the situation, Coach Scheyer shared, “I know he didn’t want to reach this milestone under such circumstances. We need to get back, have him undergo the necessary exams- X-rays and MRI. He took a hit to his leg, but beyond that, I am aware of little else. Comprehensive medical evaluation and care are our priorities now.”
The injury unfolded as Proctor was retreating defensively during a Miami fast break when his left leg appeared to give way unexpectedly. His knee bent awkwardly upon planting his foot, resulting in him exiting the court in visible pain and retreating into a tunnel with just 36.3 seconds remaining in the first half.
For the remainder of the game, Tyrese Proctor remained absent, wrapping up his performance with seven points over 14 minutes of play. Isaiah Evans stepped in to start the second half in place of Proctor. Coach Scheyer commented positively on Evans, mentioning, “Isaiah’s performance has been notable; he has truly established himself.”
Throughout three seasons, Proctor has been a mainstay in Duke’s starting lineup, having started in 87 games. This season, he has been a key contributor, averaging 11.8 points per game, making him the third highest scorer for Duke, trailing behind only teammates Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel. Additionally, Proctor leads the team in 3-point shots, with 64 successful attempts thus far.
