MILAN — Gucci has embarked on a fresh creative journey, marking this transformation by immersing the Milan Fashion Week runway in a deep green hue, a stark departure from the signature red of the past era. The fashion house chose a plush green carpet and lush green drapery for the runway, symbolizing a clear shift from the recently concluded Sabato De Sarno era.

Given the unexpected departure of creative head Sabato De Sarno after a brief two-year stint, a transition design team quickly assembled a new collection within just two and a half weeks. Remarkably, this was accomplished in even less time than the inception of the famed Alessandro Michele era in 2015, which took a mere five days to launch its debut runway.

Under Michele’s influence, the designs were characterized by standout features such as quirky pussy bows and an array of unique, flea-market inspired looks. Determining what aspects of these initial designs will influence Gucci’s future direction remains uncertain.

The newly unveiled collection draws heavily from Gucci’s historical archives. Women’s attire featured cropped suit jackets paired with mini skirts, reminiscent of the styles from the 1960s, while men’s suits were complemented with slim trousers. The 1990s made a nostalgic comeback through slinky silk dresses with delicate lace trims. Elements from the Michele era were echoed in the trailing deconstructed pussy-bow blouses. Timeless classics such as pencil skirts with slits and cigarette pants paid homage to more contemporary styles.

The overall atmosphere of the show radiated opulence, with luxurious materials like faux fur, satin, and mother of pearl leather enhancing the collection’s visual spectacle. Guests who graced the front row included noted personalities like Daisy Edgar Jones, Jessica Chastain, Parker Posey, and Dev Patel.

As for the prevailing trends, the classic boxy suit jackets with flat pockets channeling 1960s vibes stood out, as did the statement faux fur coats and long, gracefully flowing satin scarves.
