    NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Westminster College is mourning the loss of Joe Fusco, their legendary football coach who left an indelible mark on their program. Fusco, recognized for his remarkable achievements in college football, passed away on Saturday in Farrell, Pennsylvania, at the age of 87. Unfortunately, details regarding the cause of his death have not been disclosed by the college.

    Joe Fusco’s tenure at Westminster College, spanning from 1972 to 1990, was nothing short of extraordinary. During his time as head coach, he led the team to four NAIA Division II national championships. These victories came in the years 1976, 1977, 1988, and 1989. His leadership and strategic prowess were evident as the Titans triumphed in 21 of their 22 games during the 1976-77 seasons. Additionally, his team set a national benchmark with an impressive 27-game winning streak over the 1988-89 football seasons.

    With an overall coaching record of 154-34-3, Fusco boasts a remarkable winning percentage of .814, solidifying his status as a coaching icon. His inclusion in ESPN’s 2019 list of the 150 greatest coaches in college football’s 150-year history is a testament to his lasting impact. This recognition follows his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001, further acknowledging his contributions to the sport.

    A native of Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, Fusco’s roots run deep with Westminster College. Before stepping into the coaching spotlight, he played as a lineman for Westminster from 1957 to 1959. His coaching career began in high school, and he eventually returned to his alma mater in 1968, taking up the position of offensive line coach.
