CLEARWATER, Fla. — Bryce Harper’s adoration for the Philly Phanatic is now a permanent part of his skin. The Philadelphia Phillies star made quite an appearance at spring training, showcasing a new tattoo on his right arm. It features the team’s beloved mascot, the Phanatic, riding an all-terrain vehicle.

The intricate design was crafted by Hannah Matthews, a tattoo artist based in Utah. Her collaboration with Harper was highlighted on her Instagram page, where she shared a detailed image of the fresh ink. The tattoo is prominently placed on the outer side of Harper’s right forearm, just above the wrist.

Since joining the Phillies in 2019, Harper, a two-time National League MVP and an eight-time All-Star, has frequently shown his affection for the Phanatic. He has often carried the whimsical spirit of the mascot, donning cleats and a headband embellished with the Phanatic’s large, furry green figure. Last summer, Harper even used a bat themed after the Phanatic while playing against the New York Mets in London.

In a conversation with MLB.com, Harper expressed that he had been contemplating a tribute to the Phanatic for some time.

“I just love Philly,” said Harper. “I love the Phanatic. It’s just fun.”

Harper explained the strategic placement of the tattoo. It symbolizes the Phanatic following the trajectory of the ball as it soars off the left-handed slugger’s bat.

“People can kind of see that as I swing,” Harper mentioned. “Him driving off my arm, I thought it looked pretty cool.”
