MADRID — Kylian Mbappé was absent from Real Madrid’s practice due to a dental issue but is still expected to be part of the team for their Copa del Rey semifinal against Real Sociedad. Real Madrid’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, confirmed on Tuesday that the star forward would be available for selection.

Real Madrid aims to reach the Copa del Rey final for the second time in three seasons as they go into the semifinal’s first leg against Sociedad on Wednesday. Ancelotti addressed the media in a pre-match press conference, ensuring that Mbappé would be part of the squad. “Mbappé is traveling,” Ancelotti stated. “He had a tooth problem and couldn’t train today. However, he’s traveling tomorrow and is available to play.” Reports in Spain indicated that Mbappé had a tooth removed.

Despite failing to score in Madrid’s recent 2-0 victory over Girona, Mbappé has been in fine form, netting six goals in his last four appearances across all competitions. This includes a remarkable hat trick during the Champions League playoff return leg against Manchester City. In the eventuality that Mbappé cannot play, Brazilian forward Endrick is likely to step in as his replacement.

The first leg of the other Copa del Rey semifinal is set for Tuesday, featuring a clash between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Real Madrid last secured the Copa title in 2023. However, they faced an early exit from the tournament last season, being eliminated by Atletico Madrid in the round of 16.

Real Sociedad, having not reached the Copa semifinals since claiming their third title in 2020, are hoping to break a streak of recent defeats against Madrid in the Spanish league.

With key matches on the horizon, Real Madrid and its rivals are poised for a thrilling contest as they vie for a coveted spot in the Copa del Rey final.
