MADRID — Kylian Mbappé did not attend Real Madrid’s training session due to a dental issue; however, coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed on Tuesday that he will be available for the upcoming Copa del Rey semifinal against Real Sociedad. Madrid is aiming for its second Copa final appearance in three seasons, and the first leg of the semi will take place at Sociedad on Wednesday.
“Mbappé is traveling with the team,” Ancelotti stated during the pre-match press briefing. “He experienced a problem with his tooth, which kept him from training. Despite this, he will travel tomorrow and is eligible to play. Every player who is traveling has the chance to participate in the game.”
Reports from Spanish media suggested that Mbappé underwent a tooth removal procedure. During Madrid’s recent 2-0 victory over Girona in the Spanish league on Sunday, Mbappé did not score, but he had been in excellent form prior to that, netting six goals in his last four matches across all competitions. This included a hat trick against Manchester City in the Champions League playoffs.
If Mbappé is unable to play, Brazilian forward Endrick is likely to take his place. The first leg of the other semifinal will occur on Tuesday, with Barcelona set to host Atletico Madrid.
Real Madrid last secured the Copa del Rey title in 2023, and they were ousted by Atletico in the round of 16 in the previous season. Real Sociedad has not advanced to the semifinals since winning their third Copa title in 2020. They have lost their last three league matches against Real Madrid.
