LAKE CHARLES, La. — Christian Shumate delivered an impressive performance with 19 points and 10 rebounds, propelling McNeese to a dominant 100-65 victory over UT Rio Grande Valley on Monday night. This win extends the Cowboys’ streak to seven consecutive victories.
DJ Richards was another key player for the Cowboys (23-6, 17-1 Southland Conference), also contributing 19 points. He was effective from the field, hitting 4 out of 6 shots, including 4 out of 5 from beyond the arc, and was perfect from the free-throw line with a 7-for-7 showing. Quadir Copeland added 12 points, making 6 of his 10 attempts.
For the Vaqueros (14-15, 6-12), Howard Fleming Jr. was the standout performer, leading with 18 points. Dekedran Thorn supported with 15 points, while also grabbing seven rebounds and making four steals. Trey Miller chipped in with 11 points.
With this victory, McNeese has secured the regular-season championship and will enter the conference tournament as the number one seed.
