INDIANAPOLIS — The IU Indianapolis men’s basketball team returned safely to their home base on Monday after a harrowing incident the previous day when their team bus erupted into flames on Interstate 275.
The university conveyed through its online platform on Sunday that all team members and staff made a swift and secure exit from the bus after it encountered a mechanical problem following their game against Northern Kentucky, which ended in a loss. Despite the unforeseen circumstances, the team managed to complete their journey back when another bus arrived to transport them.
Images circulating on social media platforms depict the scorched remains of the bus situated on the highway’s shoulder, with its frame barely intact. The disaster claimed the bus windows and the fire severely damaged the roof.
