HAMPTON, Va. — Daniel Johnson powered Hampton with 15 points in their commanding win over Stony Brook, finishing 81-49 on Monday, marking their fifth consecutive victory.
Johnson showcased his shooting skills by hitting 5 of 10 attempts from the field, including 2 of 5 from beyond the arc, and was perfect from the line, sinking 3 out of 3 free throws for the Pirates (16-13, 8-8 Coastal Athletic Association). Wayne Bristol Jr. contributed with 12 points, going 5 for 11 on field goals and 2 for 4 from three-point range, along with securing 10 rebounds. George Beale added to the scoreboard with 12 points, sinking 4 of 8 shots, while being particularly efficient from three-point territory, hitting 4 out of his 6 attempts.
In contrast, Stony Brook’s CJ Luster II stood out with 18 points and two steals but couldn’t lift the Seawolves (6-23, 2-14) as they stumbled to their fourth consecutive loss.
Hampton seized the advantage early in the game, taking a firm 39-25 lead at halftime, thanks to Johnson’s 13 first-half points. In the second half, Hampton expanded their lead further to 55-31, largely due to a crucial 9-0 run. Bristol notably led his team with 10 points in the latter half of the game.
Looking forward, both teams are set to compete again on Thursday. Hampton will be traveling to face Drexel, while Stony Brook is scheduled to face Hofstra at home.
