SURPRISE, Arizona — Alejandro Rosario, a promising pitcher in the Texas Rangers organization, is dealing with an elbow injury that is expected to sideline him for the entire upcoming season.

Chris Young, the Rangers’ president of baseball operations, informed the media on Sunday that Rosario will likely need to undergo Tommy John surgery.

“Unfortunately, he’s going to need surgery,” said Young. “We want to be thorough with this process, so we’re making sure to seek multiple opinions. It’s important for us to address this promptly since we know he’ll be facing an extended absence, but we’re still in the process of determining the best course of action moving forward.”

At just 23 years old, Rosario is recognized as a top talent, currently holding the spot as the 50th overall prospect in Major League Baseball as per MLB.com rankings. He showcased his skills at the University of Miami and was drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 amateur draft.

The Rangers will now need to adjust their plans as they navigate the loss of Rosario’s contributions for the upcoming season. The organization remains hopeful for a successful recovery as they explore treatment options for the young pitcher.
