GREENVILLE, N.C. — In an exciting matchup, RJ Felton delivered an impressive performance, scoring 30 points as East Carolina triumphed over UTSA 96-89 in overtime on Sunday.

Felton’s effort was complemented by a strong defensive play, as he recorded three steals for the Pirates, who now stand at 16 wins and 12 losses overall, with an 8-7 mark in the American Athletic Conference. Joran Riley was also pivotal, contributing 17 points after shooting 6 of 11 from the field, along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Cam Hayes, while not shooting particularly well with only 4 of 12 from the field and missing all three of his three-point attempts, still managed to score 16 points, going a perfect 8 for 8 from the foul line, and added three steals to his performance.

On the other side of the court, Primo Spears was the standout for the Roadrunners, scoring 24 points and providing 7 assists along with 3 steals. Marcus Millender contributed significantly, adding 21 points and 4 assists, while Damari Monsanto chipped in with 14 points and recorded two blocks. Unfortunately for UTSA, this loss marked their sixth consecutive defeat, dropping their record to 10-17 overall and 4-11 in conference play.

During the second half, Joran Riley stepped up for East Carolina, leading the team with nine points. Additionally, Hayes was crucial in keeping the game’s momentum, as he sank a vital game-tying jump shot with just over a minute left in regulation, which allowed the game to head into overtime. In the extra period, although Hayes didn’t make any field goals, his six points all came from the free-throw line, where he remained perfect under pressure, contributing to the Pirates’ victory.

This win is essential for East Carolina as they look to continue building on their momentum in the conference standings.
