FORT MYERS, Fla. — Due to forecasts indicating heavy downpours, the spring training game between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox scheduled for Monday has had its start time changed. This situation not only affects today’s game but also serves as a precursor to the Tampa Bay Rays’ season, which will unfold outdoors.

On Sunday, the Red Sox confirmed that the game at JetBlue Park will now commence at 4:05 p.m. EST, a shift from the original 1:05 p.m. start time, to accommodate the anticipated rainfall in the Fort Myers region.

As the Rays gear up for their regular season, they will host home games at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. This has become necessary following Hurricane Milton, which devastated the roof of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg on October 9, making it unusable until at least 2025.

Steinbrenner Field, which boasts a seating capacity of around 11,000, is more vulnerable to weather elements as it lacks the protective cover found in Tropicana Field. This factor is particularly concerning, given that Florida summers are notorious for their sudden thunderstorms, which tend to occur in the afternoons and early evenings.
