BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — In an exciting turnaround, Indiana triumphed over No. 13 Purdue, defeating them 73-58 after overcoming a 12-point halftime deficit on Sunday. Both Malik Reneau and Trey Galloway contributed significantly, each scoring 15 points during the game, while the Hoosiers limited Purdue to just 21 points in the second half.

Reneau, who achieved a milestone by joining the 1,000-point club, shot a perfect 7 for 7 from the field and tallied six rebounds. Galloway also had an impressive showing with nine assists. This win marked Indiana’s second victory in their last eight games and enabled them to split the season series against their fierce rivals.

Leading the Boilermakers, Fletcher Loyer scored 20 points. However, this loss highlighted Purdue’s struggles, marking their fourth consecutive defeat.

The first half was controlled by Purdue, who finished with a commanding 37-25 lead after a robust 21-4 run. Yet the tide turned at the start of the second half, as the Hoosiers launched a 14-2 run, tying the score at 39. Indiana maintained their momentum, scoring 14 unanswered points to establish a 53-40 advantage with 11:56 remaining.

For Purdue, this defeat likely jeopardizes their chances for a third consecutive regular-season title, putting pressure on Coach Matt Painter to find solutions heading into the postseason. Meanwhile, Indiana under Coach Mike Woodson is striving to secure a place in the NCAA Tournament. Their recent win over No. 11 Michigan State a couple of weeks back has bolstered their position, and this victory is another step in reaffirming their season.

A crucial moment in the game came when Anthony Leal snatched a loose ball under the basket, averting a turnover. He skillfully passed to Luke Goode, who completed a layup while getting fouled, leading to a successful three-point play that handed Indiana a 42-40 lead with 14:39 left to play.

Notably, Purdue struggled with ball control, committing 11 of their 16 turnovers in the second half. Indiana capitalized on these mistakes, turning them into 19 points.

Looking ahead, Purdue will attempt to recover as they host UCLA on Friday, while Indiana prepares to face Penn State at home on Wednesday.
