NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The season opener on Saturday night concluded with a scoreless draw between Nashville and New England, marked by solid performances from both goalkeepers. Aljaz Ivacic managed to save three shots for the Revolution, while his counterpart Joe Willis faced only one shot during the match, successfully keeping it out.
Ivacic secured his first clean sheet of the season, a continuation of a promising journey after finishing last season with four shutouts in 25 appearances for the Revolution. On the other hand, the veteran Willis, at 36 years old, celebrated the 68th shutout of his career as he enters his sixth season with Nashville and his 15th overall. This match also marked his 50th clean sheet with the club, adding to his 14 shutouts amassed during five seasons with the Houston Dynamo and four during his early years with D.C. United.
B.J. Callaghan, embarking on his managerial debut with Nashville, earned a point from the game. Before taking the helm, he served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Union from 2014 to 2019 and spent the last five seasons as an assistant with the U.S. national team. Historically, Nashville holds a record of 1-0-3 in their four all-time openers, previously achieving a 0-0 draw against the New York Red Bulls during last year’s season opener.
During the offseason, New England bolstered their roster with the acquisition of Leo Campana from Inter Miami and 23-year-old Norwegian midfielder Edvard Tagseth. Campana, known for his offensive prowess, netted 32 goals and provided eight assists during his three-year stint with Inter Miami.
Looking ahead, Nashville will be traveling to play the Red Bulls in their home opener next Saturday, while the Revolution will host the Columbus Crew in their own home opener the same day.
