RICHMOND, Va. — On Saturday night, Max Shulga delivered an impressive performance, netting 22 points as VCU claimed a 70-54 victory over George Mason.
Shulga further contributed with five rebounds for the Rams, who boast a record of 22 wins and 5 losses, including 12 wins and 2 losses in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Jack Clark added 12 points and nearly hit a double-double with nine rebounds, while Phillip Russell chipped in with 11 points. This win marked the Rams’ sixth consecutive victory, solidifying their strong position in the league.
On the other side, George Mason, now standing at 21-6 overall and 12-2 in the conference, was led by Darius Maddox and K.D. Johnson, both of whom scored 12 points in the game. Additionally, Jalen Haynes added valuable support with 10 points and eight rebounds. Unfortunately for the Patriots, this defeat broke their impressive 11-game winning streak.
During the first half, Shulga scored 10 points, allowing VCU to head into halftime with a narrow deficit of 24-23. The game changed in the second half when VCU executed a stunning 15-0 run, which turned a two-point deficit into a commanding lead of 42-29 with 14:08 remaining in the game. Shulga tallied 12 points in the latter half, helping to secure the win.
Looking ahead, VCU will be on the road to face Richmond on Tuesday, while George Mason gears up to host Fordham on Wednesday.
