Liberty defeats Florida International 58-45 with Peter contributing 14 points

LYNCHBURG, Va. — A stellar performance from Taelon Peter, who contributed 14 points off the bench, propelled Liberty to a 58-45 victory over Florida International on Saturday.

Peter also grabbed six rebounds for the Flames, who now hold a record of 22-5 and are 10-4 in Conference USA. Kaden Metheny added to the scoreboard with 12 points, successfully making 4 of 10 attempts, including four shots from three-point range. Meanwhile, Jay Maughmer tallied 11 points after making 5 of 11 field goal attempts, though he struggled from beyond the arc with just one successful shot out of five attempts.

For the Panthers, who fell to 8-19 overall and 2-12 in the conference, Jayden Brewer was a standout, securing a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Vianney Salatchoum also contributed with another 10 points for Florida International.

Looking ahead, both teams are set to return to the court on Thursday. Liberty will be hosting Jacksonville State, while Florida International will play at home against Kennesaw State.
