ROME — AC Milan’s struggles continued on Saturday, suffering a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Torino in Serie A, just days after their exit from the Champions League. This latest setback has deepened the club’s crisis in recent weeks.

The match began on a low note for Milan, as defender Malick Thiaw inadvertently put the ball into his own net five minutes into the game. An attempted clearance by goalkeeper Mike Maignan deflected off Thiaw, sealing an unfortunate early goal for the hosts.

U.S. international Christian Pulisic had a chance to equalize when he was awarded a penalty, but he was unable to convert it. The Torino goalkeeper, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, made a critical save, diving to his right to block Pulisic’s low shot. Milinkovic-Savic has been quite formidable this season, having saved four out of five penalties faced.

After a close attempt from Milan’s Joao Felix that struck the post, the Rossoneri managed to find the equalizer in the 74th minute thanks to Tijjani Reijnders’ goal. However, Torino quickly regained the lead just two minutes later when Gvidas Gineitis scored with a swift shot following a free-kick that caught the Milan defense off guard.

With this defeat, Milan remains in seventh place in the Serie A standings, while Torino climbs to 11th. Just days prior, Milan’s Champions League journey came to an abrupt end, losing to Feyenoord with an aggregate score of 2-1.

In other Serie A action, later in the day, defending champions Inter Milan had an opportunity to surpass Napoli for the top spot with a match against Genoa at the San Siro. Earlier, Parma celebrated a 2-0 victory in the debut match for their new coach Cristian Chivu, overcoming regional rivals Bologna. Meanwhile, fourth-place Lazio faced a frustrating 0-0 draw against relegation-threatened Venezia.
