MADRID — Celta Vigo secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Osasuna on Friday, thanks to a penalty scored by Iago Aspas, marking his second penalty conversion within a week. This win propelled Celta Vigo up five spots in the La Liga standings.

The match showcased a fairly balanced contest between the two teams, but the decisive moment came in the 68th minute. Aspas, known for his impactful presence, struck the penalty only four minutes after being substituted onto the pitch, highlighting his effectiveness in tight matches.

Celta Vigo has demonstrated solid home performance, having only faced defeat three times in their last 14 home fixtures since August. This form places them just behind heavyweights Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, who have a stronger home record this season.

As a result of this victory, Celta Vigo ascended to ninth position in the league standings, eclipsing Osasuna. Both squads are tied with 32 points; however, Celta Vigo has played one less game than their competitors.

Osasuna midfielder Jon Moncayola commented on the match, indicating that the penalty awarded against them stemmed from a mistake. He expressed concern over their defensive lapses, stating, “We’re conceding goals in every game, and if we want to start looking to go up the table then we have to concede fewer.”
