IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — A tragic helicopter accident occurred Thursday afternoon on the icy surface of the Ririe Reservoir in southeastern Idaho, resulting in one fatality and one injury.
Authorities reported that various emergency response teams rushed to the scene, which is located just east of Idaho Falls. The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident and provided details about the response efforts.
First responders had to navigate to the helicopter’s crash site using snowmobiles. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals trapped inside the downed aircraft. Unfortunately, one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment and is believed to be in stable condition.
In the wake of the accident, deputies cordoned off the area to ensure safety and began notifying relevant agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, for further investigation.
Additionally, authorities found a downed power line in the vicinity, which could be a factor in the crash. Officials continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the helicopter’s descent as the investigation progresses.
