BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — In a strong performance on Thursday night, Yarden Garzon led the Indiana Hoosiers with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while teammates Sydney Parrish and Shay Ciezki also contributed 16 points each, helping the team secure a 71-61 victory over the No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Hoosiers showcased impressive shooting from beyond the arc, making nine three-pointers in total. Garzon connected on three of her attempts, while Parrish and Ciezki each hit two. By the end of the third quarter, Indiana had established a commanding 57-39 lead. The team finished with an impressive shooting rate of 9 out of 17 from three-point territory, contrasting sharply with Ohio State, which managed only 6 out of 18 attempts.

Leading the Buckeyes was Jaloni Cambridge with 18 points, while Cotie McMahon added another 14 points. After briefly tying the game in the second quarter, Ohio State struggled to keep pace, trailing by double digits for most of the second half.

In terms of takeaways from the game, Ohio State, which had recently experienced two overtime victories at home, fell to a 4-4 record in conference road games. While remaining unbeaten at home is anticipated, their road performance has raised concerns for a top-10 squad. Particularly troubling is their record, as they have failed to win in four games when scoring 63 points or fewer.

For Indiana, the victory marked their improvement to a 4-3 record against ranked opponents. While the Buckeyes were considered a top-10 team in previous years, the Hoosiers demonstrated that they could be a formidable challenge on any day.

A pivotal moment in the game occurred when the Buckeyes opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run, temporarily tying the game at 26. However, Indiana countered with a decisive 14-2 run to close out the half, leading 40-28 at the intermission. Ohio State failed to score and committed three turnovers in the final 3:42 of that half, a critical shift in momentum.

One of the key statistics exemplifying Indiana’s success was their significant advantage in assists, finishing with an impressive 21 while Ohio State managed just 6.

Looking ahead, the Buckeyes will return home to face Purdue on Sunday, the same day that Indiana is set to visit No. 22 Michigan State.
