INDIANAPOLIS — NBA All-Star Ja Morant has chosen not to comment on reports linking him to a recent burglary case involving a group of seven men from Chile accused of targeting high-profile athletes’ residences across the country.

According to a report from the Daily Memphian, a senior law enforcement official connected to the investigation indicated that Morant is referred to as “Professional Athlete 6” in an FBI complaint filed on January 30 in Tampa, Florida. When questioned about whether Morant was the victim in this incident, a spokesperson for the Memphis Grizzlies declined to provide a statement.

At a pregame press conference in Indianapolis, the Grizzlies confirmed that Morant had no comments regarding the report, as the team prepared to face the Indiana Pacers in their first matchup since the All-Star break.

The FBI complaint does not disclose the names of all athletes involved but does mention publicly known cases including those of Kansas City Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, as well as players from the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and NBA teams the Grizzlies and Milwaukee Bucks.

Details from the complaint state that Morant’s residence was burglarized around 4 p.m. on December 19, 2024, shortly before the Grizzlies’ game against the Golden State Warriors, which they won decisively, 144-93. The thieves reportedly took valuables including jewelry, watches, and luxury bags, totaling an approximate value of $1 million.

A representative from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office indicated that deputies responded to a burglary report on December 20 at a residence in an unincorporated area but withheld the name of the athlete or specific details of the address due to the ongoing investigation.

Some of the individuals involved in this case were apprehended in January following a traffic stop in Ohio, where they faced state charges related to the burglary of Burrow’s home. A court affidavit from Clark County, Ohio, revealed that four of the suspects were found to be residing in the country illegally. Evidence indicated that the group had taken photographs of themselves with stolen items, and they often divided into smaller teams to carry out multiple break-ins, as details confirmed by the FBI suggest.
