EDINBURGH, Scotland — Finn Russell, a key player for the Scotland rugby team, has successfully completed return-to-play protocols following a serious head injury sustained in a recent match. He is set to play in the Six Nations clash against England on Saturday.

Russell collided with his teammate Darcy Graham while attempting to tackle Ireland’s scrumhalf, Jamison Gibson-Park, during the first half of their game at Murrayfield on February 9. Following the incident, Russell managed to leave the field on his own and passed an initial head examination. However, he later exhibited signs of concussion and was subsequently withdrawn from the match. Graham, unfortunately, suffered more from the incident and was taken to a hospital for precautionary measures, but he was discharged later that evening.

Scotland’s head coach, Gregor Townsend, announced that Russell has been cleared to rejoin the team, while Graham is not included in the lineup. “Both players have been training effectively and have met the necessary protocols without issue,” stated Townsend. “Finn was symptom-free much sooner and certainly did not endure as severe a head impact as Darcy.”

He added, “Darcy is making great progress and hasn’t had any symptoms for several days now. He’s proceeding to the next phase of his training, but we decided it was too soon for full contact this week. Therefore, we are allowing him an additional week for recovery.”

Scotland aims to defeat England for the fifth consecutive year in the Six Nations after their previous loss to Ireland, with a score of 32-18. This upcoming match represents the longest-standing rivalry in international rugby.
