NEWARK, N.J. — On Wednesday night, the Toronto Sceptres secured their fifth consecutive victory by defeating the New York Sirens with a score of 4-1. Hannah Miller and Julia Gosling each made notable contributions by scoring two goals during the match. This win improved Toronto’s record to 7 wins, 2 losses, 4 overtime losses, and 6 shootout losses, earning them a total of 29 points and tying them with Minnesota for second place in the PWHL standings. Interestingly, the Sceptres have now scored at least three goals in eight successive games, marking a new record for the league.
Conversely, the New York Sirens experienced their sixth consecutive defeat, with five of those losses occurring in regulation play. The match saw a pivotal moment in the second period when Miller opened the scoring midway through the frame. Her one-timer, initially redirected off a stick, caught the shoulder of goaltender Corinne Schroeder, hit the crossbar, and ultimately crossed the goal line.
Gosling shortly extended Toronto’s lead with a power-play goal, capitalizing on a rebound near the net to elevate the puck into the top shelf with 6:48 left in the period. This goal marked Toronto’s eighth consecutive game with a power-play score, setting a new league record in that category.
During the third period, the teams combined for three goals within a short span. Miller netted her tenth goal of the season with 10:41 remaining, establishing a 3-0 lead for Toronto. New York’s Alex Carpenter responded just 38 seconds later with her seventh goal of the season, giving her team a momentary spark.
Gosling then sealed her two-goal performance just 19 seconds into another power play, marking Toronto’s 15th goal from their last 29 power-play opportunities. As the Sceptres continue their impressive run, they look forward to their upcoming game on Sunday against Minnesota, while the Sirens will face off against Boston at Buffalo’s KeyBank Center as part of the PWHL Takeover Tour.
