SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Texas Rangers announced on Monday that they have signed free agent reliever Luke Jackson to a one-year contract. This move marks a return to the team that drafted him.

Jackson was selected 45th overall by the Rangers in the 2010 amateur draft and made his major league debut with the team in 2015. During his initial stint with Texas, he played in 15 games before being traded to the Atlanta Braves after the conclusion of the 2016 season.

In a corresponding move to make space for Jackson on the roster, the Rangers placed reliever Josh Sborz on the 60-day injured list. Sborz is currently recovering from shoulder surgery he underwent in November. He played a crucial role for the Rangers, securing the save in the decisive Game 5 of the World Series, which they won against Arizona in 2023. During the last season, Sborz recorded a 2-2 record along with a 3.86 ERA over 17 appearances.

Last season, Jackson concluded his time with the Atlanta Braves, finishing with an 0-1 record and a 4.50 ERA across 16 games. He was brought back to the Braves in a trade before the deadline after he had previously achieved a 4-2 record with a 5.40 ERA in 36 appearances for the San Francisco Giants.

The 33-year-old reliever has built a career record of 22 wins, 11 losses, and 19 saves, along with a 4.24 ERA over 338 games — all in relief appearances. He played for the Rangers from 2015 to 2016, the Braves between 2017 and 2021 and then again in 2024, as well as for the Giants in 2023-2024. Jackson was part of the Braves team that won the World Series in 2021, although he missed the entire 2022 season due to Tommy John surgery.
