SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona Diamondbacks have secured slick-fielding shortstop Geraldo Perdomo with a four-year contract valued at $45 million, which is set to kick off in 2026.
The announcement was made on Tuesday and includes a club option extending to the year 2030. Perdomo, who was facing the possibility of free agency after the 2027 season, is set to earn $2.55 million this year after successfully qualifying for salary arbitration for the first time.

At just 25 years old, Perdomo earned an All-Star title in 2023, a pivotal year where he contributed significantly to the Diamondbacks’ journey to the World Series. Although he faced setbacks last season due to a torn meniscus in his right knee, he managed to achieve a batting average of .273 with three home runs over the course of 98 games, all while providing exceptional defense at a vital position on the field.

Moving forward, he is expected to play an instrumental role as the team aims to secure their first World Series championship since 2001. “We’re ready to go,” stated Perdomo. “We didn’t finish our job the last two years. It’s win the World Series. That’s the mindset for us and for everybody here.”

Typically batting lower in the lineup, Perdomo showcases a keen eye at the plate boasting a .344 on-base percentage from last season. As he enters his fifth year in the league, he has gained respect and admiration from his teammates, stepping into a leadership role following the departure of first baseman Christian Walker, who has signed on with the Houston Astros.

“The way he plays the baseball game is the way we try to play the baseball game,” commented Diamondbacks General Manager Mike Hazen. “It’s smart, fast, and dynamic on both sides of the ball.”

The Diamondbacks have taken an assertive approach this offseason in their effort to compete against powerful rivals like the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants in the National League West. A significant move for Arizona was the signing of ace pitcher Corbin Burnes to a lucrative six-year contract worth $210 million last December.
