MADRID — The Spanish soccer team Villarreal has denounced the physical attacks against two disabled fans following a league match this past weekend.
The club reported that the fans suffered multiple injuries, including a contusion and a fractured jaw. This unfortunate incident took place outside the stadium after the match against Valencia, which ended in a 1-1 tie.
One of the victims is known to be a player on Villarreal’s team for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
In light of these events, Villarreal stated that it is working closely with law enforcement to help identify those responsible for the attacks.
“Villarreal would like to strongly express its total condemnation and firm rejection of all forms of violence, which have no place within football or society. The club wishes to extend its support to the victims, maintaining ongoing communication and cooperation with them since the incident,” a club statement read.
