MANCHESTER, England — Manchester United forward Amad Diallo has suffered an ankle injury that is expected to sideline him for the remainder of the season.

Diallo incurred the injury during training earlier this week, exacerbating the growing list of injuries affecting the team. In a message posted on social media platform X, Diallo expressed his disappointment over the situation at this critical juncture of the season, stating, “Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury. I will come back stronger than ever!!”

When asked during a press conference whether Diallo’s injury would take him out for the rest of the season, coach Ruben Amorim confirmed, “I think so, yes.” He acknowledged the challenges the team has faced this season, remarking, “It’s a really hard season and we have to deal with that, and we are doing that.”

Diallo has emerged as one of United’s standout players amidst a turbulent season for the 20-time Premier League champions, accumulating nine goals. Notably, he scored a last-minute winner against Manchester City in December and netted an equalizer in a high-stakes 2-2 draw with Liverpool in January.

With Diallo’s injury complicating the situation further, Amorim finds himself lacking attacking options, especially after Marcus Rashford and Antony were loaned out during the January transfer window. Additionally, Lisandro Martinez has recently suffered from cruciate ligament damage, and on Sunday, the team was without several players, including Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Toby Collyer, due to various injuries or illnesses.

As a result, Amorim had to include eight teenagers on the substitute bench who have yet to make their senior debut for the club. “It is what it is, but we have the kids; they have the opportunity to be on the bench and they are ready to play,” he remarked, showing confidence in the younger players stepping up in challenging times.
