In an exhilarating finish, Isaac Celiscar’s layup with only eight seconds remaining on the clock secured a narrow 72-71 triumph for Yale over Pennsylvania on Friday evening.
Bez Mbeng was a standout for the Bulldogs, contributing 18 points to the scoreline and showcasing an efficient shooting performance with 7 out of 15 from the field, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Casey Simmons chipped in with 11 points, hitting 5 of 10 shots overall and also managed to grab seven rebounds. Samson Aletan rounded out a strong offensive performance by going a perfect 4 for 4 from the field and 3 for 3 from the free throw line, also finishing with 11 points. This victory marks the Bulldogs’ impressive ninth consecutive win, solidifying their strong season performance.
On the other side, Sam Brown emerged as the leading scorer for the Quakers, recording 23 points throughout the game. Ethan Roberts contributed to the team’s efforts with 10 points, while Niklas Polonowski added another nine points to the scoreboard.
Both squads are set to return to the court on Saturday, with the Bulldogs facing off against Princeton at home, while the Quakers will travel to compete against Brown.
