BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones led UC San Diego with an impressive performance, scoring 20 points in their 73-54 victory over Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday night.
Tait-Jones showcased his shooting skills by hitting 7 out of 10 attempts from the field, perfectly making all three of his tries from the 3-point line, and netting 3 of 6 free throws. This win improved the Tritons’ record to 21-4 overall and 11-2 in the Big West Conference. Along with Tait-Jones, Hayden Gray contributed significantly, achieving 12 points with a shooting accuracy of 4 for 6, including 3 for 4 from long range, and also grabbing seven rebounds. Cade Pendleton matched Gray’s score with 12 points, connecting on 4 of 8 attempts from beyond the arc. The victory marked the Tritons’ sixth consecutive win, showcasing their strong performance in this season.
On the other hand, the Roadrunners (10-16, 4-10) were spearheaded by Jemel Jones, who shone personally with 29 points, complemented by four assists and two blocks. Corey Stephenson added to their efforts with 10 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Fidelis Okereke chipped in with five points and added eight rebounds to the team’s overall performance. Unfortunately for the Roadrunners, this defeat marked their sixth loss in a row, putting them in a challenging position as they continue to seek a turnaround this season.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to play again on Saturday. UC San Diego will host UC Davis, while Cal State Bakersfield will welcome Cal State Fullerton to their home arena.
