PITTSBURGH — In an impressive display of skill, Olivia Miles tied a Notre Dame record by sinking eight 3-pointers and contributing 28 points, leading the second-ranked Fighting Irish to a commanding 88-57 victory against Pittsburgh on Thursday night.
With this win, Notre Dame improved to 13-0 in the season and 22-2 within the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), continuing a robust 17-game winning streak that ranks as the second-longest in the nation, trailing only behind UCLA’s undefeated streak of 23 games.
Sonia Citron also shined, making four 3-point shots and finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Additionally, former Pittsburgh player Liatu King scored 11 points against her old team, adding to the Irish’s notable performance.
Hannah Hidalgo, who has been a scoring sensation with an average of 25.9 points per game, was held to just 11 points, the lowest of her season. This marked the first time since November 30 that she scored under 20 points, breaking a streak of 14 consecutive games.
For Pittsburgh (3-10, 11-15), Khadija Faye achieved an impressive 23 points and 16 rebounds, marking her 12th double-double of the season. Support came from Mikayla Johnson and Marley Washenitz, who contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Noteworthy observations include:
**Notre Dame:** The team excelled with a total of 14 successful 3-pointers, demonstrating offensive dominance by winning their last three games by 30 points or more.
**Pittsburgh:** The Panthers were unable to secure their first victory against a top-five ranked team. This loss interrupted their momentum after winning back-to-back conference matches for the first time since the 2022-23 season. Notably, they have not achieved 12 wins in a season since 2016-17.
A pivotal moment in the game came when Hidalgo managed only one field goal in the first half, allowing Miles and Citron to step up significantly. The Irish outscored the Panthers 27-12 in the second quarter, taking a 16-point lead into halftime. Miles and Citron combined for an impressive nine 3-pointers in the opening half, with the Irish leading by just a single point after the first 10 minutes.
Statistically significant was Hidalgo’s performance, as she recorded seven steals, setting the single-season steals record for a sophomore at Notre Dame.
Looking ahead, Notre Dame is set to host No. 13 Duke on Monday, while Pittsburgh will welcome Virginia on Sunday.
