Joshua nets 19 points as Albany edges UMass-Lowell 90-88 in overtime.

    LOWELL, Mass. — In an exciting overtime matchup, Albany emerged victorious with a narrow 90-88 win over UMass-Lowell Thursday night. Leading the charge for Albany was Byron Joshua, who scored 19 points, while Kacper Klaczek sealed the game by hitting two crucial free throws with just 23 seconds left on the clock.

    Joshua showcased a solid performance, recording 7 of 17 shooting from the field, including a 1 for 3 record from beyond the arc, and converting 4 of 6 free throws. Additional support came from DeMarr Langford Jr., who contributed 13 points by connecting on 6 of 11 shots, while also gathering eight rebounds, providing five assists, and making three steals. Kheni Briggs also scored 13 points, achieving 5 of 10 from the field, with a 1 for 5 effort from three-point range, and hitting 2 of 5 at the charity stripe.

    During overtime, the River Hawks held an 88-82 advantage after Yuri Covington hit a layup with 1:17 remaining. Briggs then struck back with two free throws, followed by Byron Joshua’s layup, bringing the score to 88-86 after Anthony Blunt’s missed free throw for UMass-Lowell. Joshua then capitalized on a steal by Langford Jr., converting two more free throws to tie the game. A missed opportunity by Martin Somerville from the free-throw line for UMass-Lowell allowed Klaczek to finish the scoring with his successful free throws.

    Quinton Mincey was the standout performer for the River Hawks, finishing the game with 22 points and nine rebounds. Max Brooks closely followed with 20 points, adding nine rebounds and five blocks to his stat line. Somerville chipped in with 15 points and three steals for UMass-Lowell.

    Looking ahead, Albany’s next game is set for Thursday as they host Maine, while UMass-Lowell travels to face New Hampshire on Saturday.
