Igloo has announced a recall affecting over 1 million of its coolers that were distributed throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This action comes in response to safety concerns regarding a handle that poses a pinching risk, leading to serious fingertip injuries, including amputations in some cases.

The product in question is the “Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers.” The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a notice detailing the risks associated with the tow handle, which can inadvertently pinch users’ fingers. The CPSC has reported 12 incidents in the U.S. related to these coolers, with injuries varying from amputations to bone fractures and severe cuts. Thankfully, there have been no reported injuries in Canada or Mexico.

Consumers still in possession of these coolers are advised to cease usage immediately and reach out to Igloo for a complimentary replacement handle. The coolers were sold through prominent retailers including Costco, Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Amazon, from 2019 until January 2025, with prices ranging from $80 to $140. Approximately 1.06 million units have been sold in the U.S., along with 47,000 in Canada and around 23,000 in Mexico.

Identifying the affected units is easy, as they all include the model number and descriptive details. They come in various colors, each featuring the “IGLOO” logo on the side and were manufactured in the U.S. prior to January 2024.

Customers can register for the recall online or can reach Igloo’s customer service based in Katy, Texas, by dialing 888-943-5182 or sending an email to [email protected] to arrange for a handle replacement.

In their statement regarding the recall, Igloo emphasized that consumer safety is their foremost concern, explaining their commitment to providing free replacement handles. The company also reassured the public that they strive to enhance their products continuously through rigorous safety testing and proactive measures to meet elevated safety standards.

For further details, additional information is available on the CPSC website, along with the official sites of health organizations in Canada and the global recall portal managed by the OECD.
