Charges Filed Against Soldier in Connection to Pregnant Wife’s Disappearance
In a troubling development from Hawaii, a soldier has been charged in military court regarding the suspected murder of his pregnant spouse, according to statements from the Army on Wednesday. The whereabouts of the soldier’s wife remain unknown, as authorities have yet to locate her body.
The charges against Private First Class Dewayne Arthur Johnson II are linked to the disappearance of his wife, Mischa Johnson. The Army reported that the 19-year-old woman was last seen on July 31 at their residence on Schofield Barracks, an Army installation situated on Oahu, while she was six months pregnant. The Army has stated that she is presumed to be deceased.
According to the Army, the charges are serious and include allegations of murdering his wife, intentionally causing harm to her unborn child, and obstructing justice. Additional accusations encompass providing false official statements as well as possessing, producing, and distributing images of child sexual abuse, which exacerbate the gravity of the situation.
PFC Johnson was taken into custody in August. At this time, it remains uncertain whether he has secured the services of a civilian attorney; attempts to reach the phone number associated with him went unanswered on Wednesday.
Originally from Frederick, Maryland, Johnson serves as a cavalry scout. He enlisted in the Army and commenced his training at Fort Moore, Georgia, in November of 2022. He became a member of the 25th Infantry Division earlier in 2023.
The case involving Johnson will be brought before a military judge, who will be responsible for establishing the schedule for the arraignment, pretrial hearings, and trial proceedings. The charging documents outlining the specifics of the case will be made available following his arraignment, as stated by a spokesperson from the Army’s Office of Special Trial Counsel.
