MORAGA, Calif. — Augustas Marciulionis was a standout player for Saint Mary’s, scoring 24 points as the Gaels triumphed over Santa Clara with a score of 73-64 on Tuesday evening.
Marciulionis also facilitated the offense with six assists and showcased his defensive skills by making three steals, aiding his team’s impressive record of 22 wins against just four losses, alongside a solid 12-1 in the West Coast Conference.
Supporting Marciulionis in the scoring department, Luke Barrett contributed 13 points, achieving an efficient shooting night with a 6-of-8 performance from the field, which included making 1 of 3 attempts from beyond the arc. Barrett also grabbed six rebounds in the contest. Additionally, Harry Wessels added to the Gaels’ scoring with 11 points, displaying his effectiveness by shooting 2 of 5 from the floor while converting 7 of 9 from the free-throw line.
On the other side, Johnny O’Neil was the top performer for the Broncos, putting up 18 points along with six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Jake Ensminger contributed 13 points, while Camaron Tongue added 11 points to Santa Clara’s efforts.
At halftime, Saint Mary’s maintained a 37-30 lead, with Marciulionis being the leading scorer with 13 points by that point. The Gaels pulled ahead decisively in the second half, going on a 9-0 scoring spree that transformed a tightly contested game tied at 58 into a comfortable 67-58 advantage with just 2:39 left on the clock.
