HOUSTON — In a competitive matchup, Atin Wright shined for North Texas, contributing 20 points as his team triumphed over Rice 67-61 on Tuesday evening.
Wright’s performance included a shooting line of 5 for 14 overall, with an impressive 5 for 12 from beyond the arc, while also connecting on all five of his free throw attempts. The Mean Green, now with a record of 18-6 and 9-3 in the American Athletic Conference, also saw Brenen Lorient score 11 points, hitting 5 of 8 from the field. Grant Newell added to the scoreboard with 10 points off a 3 of 7 shooting effort and perfect from the line, along with contributing six rebounds to the team’s efforts.
The Owls, holding a record of 12-13 and 3-9 in conference play, were led by Jacob Dar, who recorded 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Caden Powell chipped in with 10 points, while Andrew Akuchie contributed nine points to the team.
Looking ahead, North Texas will clash with Tulsa at home on Wednesday, while Rice is set to face Tulane on Saturday.
