COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Vivek Murthy, who previously served as the U.S. Surgeon General, is making a return to the board of directors of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
This marks Murthy’s second term on the 18-member board. His prior service lasted from 2020 to 2021, after which he left to take up the role of surgeon general once again, a position he previously held during President Obama’s administration.
Joining Murthy on the board is Mung Chiang, the president of Purdue University. The USOPC is currently in the process of finding a replacement for John Naber, an athlete-elected member who resigned last year.
Also newly appointed to the board is the renowned track and field athlete Allyson Felix, following her election to the International Olympic Committee’s athletes’ commission last year. Her inclusion is seen as a significant addition to the leadership team.
