In Jacksonville, Florida, the president of the Jaguars, Mark Lamping, has officially signed a contract extension that secures his position through the 2030 season. Owner Shad Khan made this announcement on Tuesday, solidifying that Lamping will oversee the business operations of the franchise during and after the ambitious $1.4 billion renovation of the team’s stadium, an endeavor for which he has been instrumental in securing approval.

Lamping’s experience in stadium construction spans his career and includes significant projects such as Busch Stadium in St. Louis and MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Since Shad Khan acquired the Jaguars in 2012, Lamping has been an essential figure in the organization.

Looking to the future, Khan emphasized the importance of Lamping’s leadership, especially during pivotal years ahead for the Jaguars and the new stadium initiative, referred to as the “Stadium of the Future.”

In October, NFL owners unanimously supported Jacksonville’s stadium project, a critical decision that assures the Jaguars will remain in one of the smallest markets in the league for at least the next three decades. The completion of the renovation is anticipated by the 2028 season.

This month marks the beginning of pre-construction activities. For 2025, the Jaguars are preparing for games in a venue with slightly fewer seats, while in 2026, they will play in a significantly reduced capacity with no upper deck. Furthermore, in 2027, the team may relocate multiple home games to Orlando or potentially overseas, with options in London or Ireland.

The planned open-air stadium, which will accommodate 63,000 fans, features an innovative translucent covering designed to block sunlight effectively. Lamping has mentioned that this design is akin to “wearing shades in the sun,” with expectations of reducing outdoor temperatures by approximately 15 degrees.
