VOLTAGE, Wash. — A tragic accident occurred on a two-lane highway in central Washington, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to seven others when a motorist attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided with a charter bus.
On Sunday afternoon, a Toyota Camry was traveling west on Highway 28, situated east of Wenatchee, when it collided head-on with an incoming Northwestern Stage Lines charter bus, according to local reports.
The Washington State Patrol confirmed that the bus’s driver, a 66-year-old man from Spokane, lost his life in the crash, along with two teenagers from East Wenatchee: a 17-year-old female who was driving the Camry and a 17-year-old male passenger. Furthermore, a passenger from the bus succumbed to injuries later at a hospital. The accident left seven more individuals—ranging in age from 24 to 71—injured, necessitating their transport to local medical facilities, as stated by law enforcement officials.
The Camry also crashed into another vehicle that it had been attempting to pass, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the occupants of that car, the state patrol noted.
Jacob Price, the owner of the bus company based in Spokane, mentioned that the accident occurred during a scheduled journey between Seattle and Spokane, during which approximately 20 passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the incident.
Price conveyed to the press that the collision resulted from a motorist attempting a pass at what he described as an “excessive speed.” He added that the company is cooperating with state troopers and the Washington Department of Transportation to gather further details regarding the unfortunate event.
“Our talented and dedicated driver was among the fatalities,” Price expressed, echoing a feeling of deep sorrow over the loss.
At this time, the identities of those who perished in the collision have not been disclosed.
