In Doncaster, England, Crystal Palace emerged victorious against Doncaster Rovers with a score of 2-0 in the FA Cup on Monday, paving their way to a fifth-round clash against Millwall at home.
Despite being three divisions above their opponents, Palace struggled to find the net until the 31st minute when they executed a well-rehearsed set piece. Daichi Kamada took a free kick that was rolled to Jean-Philippe Mateta; although his shot struck the post, Daniel Muñoz was perfectly positioned to capitalize on the rebound.
In the early stages of the second half, Doncaster appeared to be gaining momentum and looked to threaten Palace’s lead. However, their aspirations for a comeback were dashed in the 55th minute. Northern Ireland international Justin Devenny received a beautifully lofted pass from Will Hughes, which he skillfully directed over the goalkeeper, extending Palace’s advantage.
Doncaster continued to fight hard, attempting to claw back into the match. Yet, the disparity between the two teams in terms of quality became increasingly apparent, as Palace effectively managed the game until the final whistle.
The London club will now prepare for their match against Championship rivals Millwall during the weekend of March 1-2.
