NEW ORLEANS — On Monday, authorities in New Orleans confirmed that no charges will be filed against a cast member who showcased a flag representing Palestine during Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl. This protest involved a banner that combined the colors of both the Palestinian and Sudanese flags, with the word “GAZA” prominently displayed alongside “SUDAN.”
During the show, the individual was part of a larger ensemble of dancers dressed in matching black outfits. The cast member raised the flag while balancing on the roof of a car that served as a focal point in Lamar’s performance. Following the display, the individual leaped off the car and ran across the field, only to be apprehended by several security personnel dressed in suits.
The cast member had concealed the flag prior to the performance, and it was reported that organizers of the show had no prior knowledge of the individual’s intentions. The NFL announced that this person would face a lifetime ban from attending future events at its stadiums.
In a statement released through the NFL, Roc Nation, the production company behind the halftime show, emphasized that the flag’s display was not part of any prearranged plan.
President Donald Trump was in attendance during the game, although it remains uncertain whether he witnessed the protest unfold. Trump’s previous remarks regarding his administration’s alleged commitment to purchasing land in Gaza have been largely dismissed by the Palestinian populace, complicating ongoing discussions surrounding the region’s future.
