NEW YORK — Sanna Marin, the former Prime Minister of Finland, is set to release a memoir this upcoming fall, reflecting on her impactful four-year tenure in which she led an all-female coalition government. During her time in office, Marin oversaw significant events such as Finland’s accession to NATO and the implementation of key legislation focused on climate change and social justice.

Scribner has announced that Marin’s memoir, titled “Hope in Action: A Memoir about the Courage to Lead,” is scheduled for publication on November 4.

In a statement shared by Scribner, Marin expressed her thoughts on the complexities of the world today. “Geopolitical issues and rivalry challenge the established international norms. The threats of climate change and biodiversity loss pose significant dangers to our existence. We are also witnessing a backlash against gender equality and the rights of women and girls,” she noted. “Despite these daunting challenges, it’s crucial to remember that hope is attainable through action. I aspire that my narrative will inspire others to take a stand and pursue the changes they wish to see in the world.”

Scribner has characterized the memoir as “a unique and personal narrative” detailing “critical moments” of her leadership.

Marin was only 34 years old when she assumed office in 2019, leading a groundbreaking center-left coalition composed entirely of women. She gained international recognition for her firm stance against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and for Finland’s expedited membership in NATO, a significant shift from the country’s long-standing neutrality established since World War II.

Her personal life also attracted media attention throughout her career. In August 2022, she faced backlash after a photo emerged showing two women kissing and posing topless at her official summer residence, leading her to issue an apology. Additionally, a video depicting Marin dancing and singing with friends sparked discussions regarding the expectations of heads of state during their leisure time, particularly regarding the different standards applied to women.

Having exited the political arena in 2023, Marin has taken on a new role as a strategic advisor at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.
