MONTREAL — Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes will not participate in the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off due to an undisclosed injury. His absence will be filled by fellow blueliner Jake Sanderson, who has been added to the U.S. national team roster.

Hughes, the current holder of the Norris Trophy, reportedly sustained an injury during the latter stages of Vancouver’s 5-3 defeat to the Dallas Stars on January 31. Since then, he has been sidelined for four games. This season, he has recorded an impressive tally of 14 goals and 45 assists over 47 games played.

Initially, Hughes was excited about the prospect of playing alongside his younger brother, Jack Hughes, who currently plays for the New Jersey Devils. The pairing would have marked a notable moment for the Hughes family on the international stage.

Taking his place in the lineup, Sanderson, whose father is former NHL player Geoff Sanderson, has been making his mark with the Ottawa Senators this season. He has contributed five goals and 30 assists in 55 outings.

The American team is scheduled to kick off their tournament on Thursday night against Finland in Montreal, setting the stage for the participating nations to battle it out for supremacy.
