Stillwater, Oklahoma – In an impressive demonstration of teamwork and strategy, Oklahoma State University triumphed over Arizona State with a score of 86-73 on Sunday. Jamyron Keller emerged as a key player for the Cowboys, tallying 14 points, while five of his teammates contributed with ten points each, ensuring a strong performance throughout the game.
The Cowboys maintained control of the match from the outset, leading 43-33 at halftime. They quickly expanded their advantage to as much as 19 points in the first six minutes of the second half. Despite facing a significant deficit, Arizona State made a push with Basheer Jihad scoring seven points, which narrowed the gap to 71-64. However, Pat Suemnick’s fast-break layup restored a nine-point buffer for Oklahoma State, bringing the score to 73-64 with just over five minutes left in the game.
Although that layup marked the last field goal for the Cowboys, they effectively managed to secure their lead by sinking 13 of their 14 free throw attempts in the closing 5:40. Despite missing their final five shots from the floor, the team consistently held a lead of at least eight points until the final buzzer. Both teams exhibited proficiency at the charity stripe, with each converting 22 of 26 attempts.
In addition to Keller’s contributions, the scoring was well-distributed among Oklahoma State players, as Arturo Dean, Robert Jennings, Khalil Brantley, Brandon Newman, and Suemnick each scored 10 points. On the opposing side, Alston Mason stood out for Arizona State, playing the entire 40 minutes and finishing with a remarkable 25 points, his season high. Other notable performances included Joson Sanon with 17 points, Amier Ali scoring 12 points, and Jihad contributing 10 points, while Ali also recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds—his first in college.
Keller’s strong start set the tone for Oklahoma State, as he hit three three-pointers and amassed 11 points within the first five and a half minutes, helping the Cowboys surge to a 19-9 lead. Another critical moment came with Brantley’s three-point play, extending their lead to 29-17, where they maintained a double-digit advantage for the rest of the first half.
This victory marks Oklahoma State’s 6-3 lead in the all-time series against Arizona State, which dates back to their last meeting in 1997. The Cowboys are set to face TCU next Wednesday, while Arizona State will take on the No. 13 Texas Tech on the same day.
