RIVERSIDE, Calif. — In a closely contested matchup, Barrington Hargress led the charge for UC Riverside, contributing 19 points to secure a 69-64 victory against Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday evening.
Hargress was also instrumental on the defensive end, recording three steals for the Highlanders, who now hold a record of 16 wins and 9 losses, with a 9-4 standing in the Big West Conference. Niyi Olabode complemented Hargress’s performance by finishing with 13 points, along with five rebounds and three steals. Isaiah Moses struggled slightly offensively, converting only one shot out of five attempts from the field, but he was perfect from the charity stripe, going 8 for 8 to finish with 10 points.
On the opposing side, Cal State Bakersfield (10-15, 4-9) was led by CJ Hardy, who scored an impressive 20 points and added seven rebounds. Jemel Jones contributed significantly as well, scoring 14 points and dishing out five assists, while Corey Stephenson rounded out the scoring for the Roadrunners with 11 points.
Looking ahead, both UC Riverside and Cal State Bakersfield will be back on the court this coming Thursday. The Highlanders are set to travel to face UC Davis, while the Roadrunners will host UC San Diego at their home venue.
