Canada has officially added defenseman Drew Doughty to its lineup for the 4 Nations Face-Off, stepping in for Alex Pietrangelo, who has opted out of the tournament due to injury.

Doughty, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time Stanley Cup champion, recently returned to the ice with the Los Angeles Kings after recovering from a broken left ankle sustained during an exhibition match in September. Had it not been for his injury, Doughty would have been included in the original roster revealed last December.

“Drew brings a wealth of experience both internationally and in the NHL, especially considering his successful runs with LA,” stated Canada captain Sidney Crosby. “Moreover, his versatility on the ice allows him to adapt to various roles, which is invaluable. His experience and ability to handle different game situations are key assets.”

As Canada prepares for its tournament opener against Sweden on Wednesday in Montreal, the focus has now shifted to Crosby’s own health, following an injury he sustained during a recent Penguins game. Practices for all four competing teams are scheduled to commence on Monday.
