DALLAS — During his debut with the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday, Anthony Davis exited in the third quarter due to a lower-body injury and did not return after a significant trade that involved Luka Doncic moving to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavericks secured a 116-105 win against the Houston Rockets, but Davis’s early departure cast a shadow on the night.

The 31-year-old experienced discomfort as he clutched his groin while playing. He was later deemed doubtful to return and ultimately did not take the court again during the Mavericks’ first home game since the significant trade took place. Davis reported feeling tightness in his groin and quadriceps, and his decision not to re-enter the game was influenced by an abdominal strain that had sidelined him for his last two outings with the Lakers, in addition to the first two potential games with Dallas.

Davis described the sensation he experienced, saying, “Leg got tight, like a little spasm. Came back and tried to get it loose and everything, obviously dealing with the ab, strained still. It wouldn’t loosen up and let go. But it’s nothing serious.” Despite the injury, he displayed impressive statistics in the game, accumulating 26 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists, with 24 points and all three of his blocks being recorded in the first half.

Coach Jason Kidd expressed hope regarding Davis’s condition, stating, “We’ll see how he feels tomorrow.” The trade had sparked skepticism given that the Mavericks parted ways with a 25-year-old star at the height of his career to acquire Davis, who has a history of injuries.

During the game, Davis went down without any physical contact as Alperen Sengun drove past him for a layup. He walked slowly toward the offensive end, remaining at the corner of the court near the Dallas bench while the offense continued to flow. Once the Rockets regained possession, Davis did not attempt to move back on defense. The Mavericks chose to foul to stop the clock, allowing Davis to exit the game. He lingered on the bench for a brief period before eventually leaving the court.

Looking ahead, the Mavericks are scheduled to face Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors on Monday, which marks the second game in a four-game homestand. Davis remains optimistic about his condition, stating, “I’m very confident. I feel great. Do some more stuff tomorrow, but just take it a day at a time.”
