ITHACA, N.Y. — The Yale Bulldogs surged to victory over Cornell, clinching a 103-88 win on Saturday, led by a remarkable 32-point performance from John Poulakidas. Bez Mbeng also made a significant contribution, achieving a notable double-double that marks only the second such occurrence in Yale’s history.
Poulakidas displayed his offensive prowess by shooting 12 for 18 from the field, including an impressive 6 for 10 from beyond the arc. Alongside him, Nick Townsend added another 25 points, hitting 11 of his 13 attempts from the floor and converting 2 out of 3 free throws, while also contributing six rebounds and five assists. Mbeng rounded out the standout performances with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and an incredible 12 assists, helping the Bulldogs to maintain their strong momentum with an eighth consecutive victory.
For the Big Red, who hold a 5-2 record in the Ivy League and 13-7 overall, Cooper Noard led the scoring with 28 points. Teammates AK Okereke, Adam Tsang Hinton, and Nazir Williams each supported the effort by contributing 14 points in the contest.
Looking ahead, both Yale and Cornell will return to the court next Friday. Yale will be at home, preparing to take on Pennsylvania, while Cornell will travel to face Harvard in their next matchup.
