PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) continued their impressive form in Ligue 1 as they secured a dominant 4-1 victory over third-placed Monaco on Friday night, allowing them to stretch their lead to 13 points at the top of the league table.
Newly acquired winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored his inaugural goal for the club since transferring from Napoli for around 70 million euros (approximately $72 million). Known for his exceptional skills and precise finishing, Kvaratskhelia showcased those talents in the 54th minute. After skillfully controlling a rapid pass with his right foot, he deftly maneuvered past Monaco defender Christian Mawissa before executing an impressive shot over goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki, making the scoreline 2-1.
Just three minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé further extended PSG’s lead by netting their third goal, following a well-executed collaboration with teammate Désiré Doué. Dembélé’s close-range tap-in capped off a swift counterattack, increasing his tally to a remarkable 16 goals this season, the highest in the league.
PSG initially took the lead in the sixth minute with a free kick from Vitinha, which curled into the bottom right corner, capitalizing on a significant positional error from Majecki that left a wide opening.
Monaco, while showcasing some attacking talent through players like the skillful Maghnes Akliouche, struggled with inconsistency in their defense and poor finishing. If Lille and Nice secure victories this weekend, Monaco will drop to fifth place.
Marseille remains in second place and will need to win against Angers on Sunday to maintain a 10-point gap from PSG.
In other matches, Brest achieved their third consecutive victory, overcoming Nantes with a 2-0 scoreline. Key contributions came from striker Ludovic Ajorque and midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou as they climbed to seventh in the standings. Notably, Nantes has faced three straight defeats against Brest, including one in the French Cup.
Looking ahead, Brest is set to host PSG on Tuesday for the first leg of their Champions League playoff match.
